For the Love of a Daughter

Our first child and firstborn daughter was a boy! Or at least that is what the doctor said she would be eight months into the pregnancy. Beings that we were first time parents we took this as a for sure and positive and set off decorating the nursery in blue and red fully equipped with Noah's Ark accessories.  Also purchased was a complete layette of onesies undershirts, bath towel and cloth wash rags all in a pale blue with pictures of dinosaurs equipping each item.  A darling sailor suit was the outfit of choice for the coming home celebration after birth.

Imagine our surprise, when after 12 long hours of labor we successfully delivered a beautiful bouncing...baby girl.  A girl was most definitely not in the plan, at least not at the moment of the revelation...but it did not take long to realize that the blessings of this Sweet Baby Girl far outweighed any boy or at least until the second child came along.

Why you ask is this prattle going on so long and what is it leading up too and well let's say that we dub April 5 as Daughter Day, at least in the year 2011. We have recently been reminded, as we have been also over the last 19 years of the tremendous gracious hand of God in the lives of Daughters.  We understand that not all parents are granted the privilege of having a daughter, but in all reality they do perhaps know of a special young lady of the same breed, be she a daughter-in-law, niece, grandchild, child of a close friend and so on and so forth.

So many times when a day is being dreary, whether in spirit or in physical appearance a sweet innocent smile, a soft touch or a hug, a kind word of encouragement we feel the burden lifted and wafted away on the wings of the most beautiful butterfly that one has ever seen.  The feeling may come again in a time of tension between two people...and a tear runs down a perfectly spotless cheek of smooth skin and we once more are reminded of this creature that we are blessed to know. It would not be right to not mention the wondrous strength of this individual, called a daughter.  When a crisis arises and things don't seem right...a peace in a prayer offered up to our Father and the faith that she has gives a comfort to the soul.  God made daughters and He saw that this was good!
Today if you have a daughter...give her a hug!

A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future.
